Anxiety: Resources and Support

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people look for help. Worry that will not switch off. Panic that arrives without warning. A fear of being watched or judged that quietly shrinks what you are willing to do.

The resources below are maintained by established organizations, not by this practice. They explain what anxiety is, what treatment actually involves, and what you can try on your own. We keep the list short and current.

Where to start

Anxiety and Depression Association of America

Plain-language explanations of anxiety disorders, free screening tools, and a directory of clinicians who treat them.

National Institute of Mental Health: Anxiety Disorders

The federal research agency's overview of anxiety symptoms, risk factors, and evidence-based treatment, including therapy and medication options.

HelpGuide: Anxiety Disorders and Anxiety Attacks

A practical self-help guide to recognizing anxiety and panic, with breathing, grounding, and thought-level strategies you can start using today.

International OCD Foundation

Information and support for OCD and related conditions, which frequently travel with anxiety and are easy to miss.

Harvard Health: Recognizing and managing panic attacks

What happens in the body during a panic attack, and what helps prevent the next one.

These organizations are independent of Ballast Behavioral Health Group. We include them because they are reliable and genuinely useful, not as a substitute for care.

Care at Ballast

Our psychologists treat anxiety with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure-based work, matched to the person rather than the other way around. Treatment is available in person in the Memphis area and by telehealth across Tennessee. See how therapy works here or get in touch.

If you are in crisis

Ballast Behavioral Health Group is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

  • 988 — Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Call or text, 24 hours a day.
  • Text HOME to 741741 — Crisis Text Line, 24 hours a day.
  • (901) 274-7477 — Memphis Crisis Center, 24 hours a day.
